LiggittSphere says IT’s Not Just a job

Dear Friends,

For years,   Just think of it — everything is providential when every day, all day you “see” that God called you to that job for His purposes.

“The Call: Finding and Fulfilling the Central Purpose of Your Life” (Thomas Nelson Paperback, October, 2003) author Dr. Os Guinness attempts to clarify what it means to be “called” by God.  I recommend the book and customer reviews give it a 4.5 star rating out of 5 (Go to: http://www.amazon.com/Call-Finding-Fulfilling-Central-Purpose/dp/0849944376).

Guinness defines the call of God as, “the truth that God calls us to Himself so decisively that everything we are, everything we do, and everything we have is … lived out as a response to His summons and service.”  He proposes two types of calling from God — one is primary and the other is secondary.

Our primary calling involves following Christ in all we do.  Our secondary calling is using our personal gifts and abilities in order that God is glorified (our vocation).  The challenge, he says, is to keep these callings in the right order — in other words, not elevating our personal above our primary calling so that overemphasizing the “work ethic” dilutes the call of God to merely holding a job.

Do you tend to separate your “vocation” from your “calling?”  God calls us  *first*  to Himself — and then to activity.  Pray that God would demonstrate to you that your vocation is a calling so you more clearly see that everything you do is an opportunity to glorify God.

I Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

In Christ
